Uskollisimmat lukijat saattavat ehkä muistaa miten aloitin tämän kirjontaprojektin lomamatkalla tammikuussa 2010. Nyt se valmistui, jälleen reissukäsityönä. Kirjontaosuus (30 x 15,5 cm) tuli valmiiksi jo loppukesästä, mutta kukkaron kokoamista on tehty pitkään ja hartaasti muiden hommien ohella sekä kotona, linnassa että reissussa. Pussin tekemisessä kesti kaksi vuotta, mutta lähinnä siksi, että samalla tuli tehtyä kaikkea muutakin ja kirjontatyö oli semmoinen luksuskäsityö, johon tartuin vain silloin kun oli aikaa.
Pussi on vuorattu punaisella pellavalla, sen reunat on koottu tekemällä nyöri (tällä tavalla) reunaan samalla kun pussin ompelee kokoon.
Pussin pohjassa on kolme tupsua, joista jokaisessa on luinen pääkallohelmi, sama kuin rukousnauhassa. Tällä kertaa lisäsin tupsujen päähän lisää lankaa ja kirjontaa, jokseenkin tällä tavalla, (kiitos Medieval Silkworkille). Se antoi hyvän lisäyksen tupsuihin ja sai ne viimeistellymmän oloisiksi. Viimeistelin kukkaronnnyörien tupsut samalla tavalla. Nyörit kukkarossa ovat iskunauhaa.
Siinä se nyt on, tehty tällä kaavalla Medieval Arts and Craftsista (ja aivan mahtava kaava olikin, suosittelen!) villaisesta Veera-langasta jossa punainen on värjätty krapilla, sininen morsingolla ja keltainen horsmalla. Koska koko pussiin ei tullut yhden yhtä virhettä, joten annoin luvan itselleni tehdä seuraavan silkkilangasta.

My more loyal readers may remember that I originally started this project on holiday back in January 2010. So I thought it would be only fitting to finish it while on holiday. The embroidery (which measured 30 x 15,5 cm when finished) was finished in early in the fall, but the finishing touches (done at home, while travellina and at the castle in Ronneburg) too their time. All in all the project took two years, mostly because the embroidery was a sort of luxury craft that I took up when I had leisurely time left over from other stuff that I was working on during these 2 years.
The bag is lined with red linen, the sides are sewn up by making a cord while sewing them up (instructions here).
The bag has 3 tassels, all finished with a bone skull bead from Denmark’s Nationalmuseet, same ones that I used for the rosary. This time I finished the tassels quite like this tutorial tells you to, thanks again to Medieval Silkwork! It added a nice finish to the tassels, so I did that also on the tassels that I added to the purse strings. The purse strings and the hanger are all fingerlooped braid.
So there it finally is, after all this time. The embroidery is made with this pattern from Medieval Arts and Crafts (fun and lovely, I do heartily recommend) with wool thread (Veera), the red is dyed with madder, the blue with woad and the yellow with fireweed. Since this time the entire embroidery was completely flawless without any mistakes, I gave myself permission to do the next purse in silk.
Onneksi olkoon! Melkoinen harakan otsamuksen olet kirjonut. Muistan kun tein kansallispukuuni samantyyppistä työtä. Oli siinä pistelemistä… Sakkolan puvun vaimonpäähine piti saada valmiiksi häihin, jotta anoppi saisi vaihtaa päähineeni. (Sakkolan puku on se Larin Paraskeen käyttämä.)
Joo, tässä on aika paljon samaa kuin monien kansallispukujen kirjonnoissa – Anoppi kommentoi ihan samaa. :)

I lined the embroidery so that it was a flat lined piece, then assembled the bag. The great thing about the method of looping a braid on the sides is that it is really almost invisible from the inside, so the inside of the bag is really neat and has no seam allowances etc. there.
